For a long time, I wanted to believe the narrative. I wanted to build an “Agentic Swarm”—a sophisticated network of AI agents—using exclusively European tools. I wanted “Digital Sovereignty” to be more than a buzzword; I wanted it to be my tech stack.
Then I started my MCP (Model Context Protocol) certification. I looked at the connectors, the documentation, and the raw performance. And then I woke up.
1. The Reality Gap and the “Digital Omnibus”
The “Digital Omnibus” proposal from November 2025 is the final confirmation of what many of us knew but didn’t want to admit: Europe is trying to regulate its way out of a race it isn’t even running. While we argue over the legal definitions of “personal data” and “opt-out” versus “opt-in” for AI training, the global infrastructure for the next decade is being built elsewhere.
The truth is uncomfortable: EU-only solutions are currently not competitive. If you use a US Hyperscaler, the Cloud Act makes the physical location of the server almost irrelevant. Seeking total EU autonomy today is like refusing to use a car because you didn’t build the engine yourself. It’s a noble sentiment that leads to an empty parking lot.
2. The Consultant’s Burden: Why I Switched
As a consultant, I don’t just sell advice; I sell results. When I walk into a complex enterprise environment with a high level of responsibility, I cannot afford to work with “experimental” or “fragmented” tools.
Working in a complicated environment is like performing surgery. You don’t want to wonder if your scalpel is compatible with the operating table.
-
The U.S. Stack (OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Azure, GCP): It is a cohesive, mature, and “comfortable” ecosystem. The connectors work. The documentation is industrial-grade. I have a single point of truth and a global community to lean on.
-
The EU “Alternatives”: They are a collection of fragmented islands. Each tool has its own logic, lacking SDKs, and “early-stage” stability issues.
3. High-Level Responsibility Requires High-Level Power
When I am building a system that handles a company’s internal knowledge or decision-making, the stakes are too high for ideological experiments.
-
I need the Reasoning Power of the world’s leading LLMs.
-
I need the Reliability of clouds that can handle global scale.
-
I need the Convenience of tools that “just work” so I can focus on the client’s problem, not the infrastructure’s bugs.
4. Pragmatic Excellence Over Ideology
I have stopped trying to build “European AI.” I am now building Success Stories using the best tools the world has to offer.
This isn’t a surrender; it’s a professional pivot. I use the U.S. stack for the “Brain” and the “Muscle,” and I use my expertise to provide the Strategy, the Ethics, and the Governance. This is the only way to be a responsible partner in 2026.
The dream of an autonomous EU tech stack is a myth. The era of the Global Builder is here. I’m done waiting for Europe to catch up—I’m busy building the future.
