In the development of innovative IT products and services, the combined application of methods like Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile Development has proven particularly successful. True expertise lies not in applying these methods rigidly, but in their intuitive combination and purposeful adaptation. This approach ensures both the flexibility needed for creativity and the structure required for discipline.

The Core Mandate: Successful Customer-Oriented Innovation

Successful companies consistently exhibit three key success factors when applying these methods: a clear organizational commitment, competent employees, and a strong culture of innovation. Our focus must always be on customer focus, flexibility, and dynamism.

My Approach: A Hybrid Framework for Product Development

I leverage a blended framework—combining my expertise in Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile practices with structured OKRs and an adapted Kanban—to drive successful and customer-centric product development:

  1. Design Thinking for Empathy:

    • Application: This is where we define clear customer problems and user journeys. The “Discovery” phase focuses on understanding users to define impactful, high-value Team Objectives.

    • Result: Objectives are explicitly designed to improve the customer experience.

  2. Lean Startup for Validation:

    • Application: We implement a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and run continuous Build-Measure-Learn cycles to validate hypotheses with real customers.

    • Steering: We use Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Key Results measure customer impact (e.g., “Increase new feature adoption rate by 10%”). The rule is: no execution without clear Key Results.

  3. Adapted Kanban for Rapid Learning & Pivot:

    • Application: The Kanban flow (In Progress, Review, Done) manages rapid iterations of prototypes.

    • Adaptation: The Review Decision Guide integrates the Lean philosophy. It ensures we analyze data (“Analyze data”) and decide quickly whether to scale the feature (Move to Done), iterate (Hold/Re-work), or pivot (Kill/Re-LOO), guaranteeing we respond to changes before simply following a plan.

Elevating the Practice with Generative AI (Gen AI)

Drawing from my expertise in applying tools like ChatGPT to Design Thinking, Gen AI accelerates our ability to deliver customer value:

  • Accelerating Synthesis in Design Thinking: Gen AI processes vast amounts of customer feedback (e.g., surveys, support tickets) to quickly identify market needs and core user pain points, speeding up the “Define” phase.

  • Rapid Prototyping and Concept Generation: AI generates diverse text-based or visual concepts for new IT products/services in minutes. This directly supports the rapid creation of the “Prototype button” and the preparation for the “Test with users” step.

  • Data-Driven OKR Formulation: AI analyzes market data and competitive landscapes to suggest more impactful, customer-facing Key Results for product launches.

By intuitively combining these methods and using Gen AI as an accelerator, we ensure that customer focus, self-reliance, and accountability are woven into every aspect of product development, making the agile working style part of the company culture.
