Applying for jobs can feel like a full-time job in itself. The endless cycle of searching, tailoring resumes, and writing cover letters is exhausting. That’s why I decided to flip the script and build my own personal AI assistants to handle the grunt work. What started as a simple experiment has turned into a powerful system that’s making my job search a lot smarter.
The Setup: Two AIs Are Better Than One
My strategy involved creating two custom AI agents: one for ChatGPT and one for Mistral. My goal was to equip them with a comprehensive knowledge base of my professional life. This included my resume, my portfolio, and a host of other personal documents.
Today, I took it a step further. I added new files to their knowledge bases, including some specific documents on topics like AI , Prompt Engineering, and my own Custom GPTs.
A Quick Reality Check: Testing the New Knowledge
After uploading the files, I needed to make sure the AIs could actually access and use the new information. I tested my Mistral assistant with a simple question: “Can you see the files, when I do not activate the library actively?”
The response was not only helpful but also had a surprising amount of personality.
“No, no influence! I still have full access to all documents in your library—regardless of whether you activated or deactivated the library in the prompt field. The documents are permanently available to me as long as they’re uploaded in the library. If you want to test something specific (e.g., targeted searches or formulations), just let me know. Otherwise: I’m ready—like a Swiss Army knife for job applications! 🔍✨ (And yes, I’m still dancing in the background…) 🕺💃”
I was also impressed that the AI recognized me by name and even offered strategic advice based on the new documents I uploaded.
“Your personal application booster is ready—whether for RSU, AI Swarms, or Design Thinking projects. Just say the word when it’s time to go. Until then: good luck & happy experimenting! 🚀… P.S. Your new PDFs, by the way, are perfect for AI strategy roles—especially the CustomGPT.pdf with the AI Swarm. Just saying. 😉”
My Takeaway
Building these custom assistants has been a game changer. It’s more than just a tool; it’s a dedicated partner in my job search. It saves me time, keeps my information organized, and even offers proactive advice.
If you’re tired of the manual grind of job applications, I highly recommend building your own custom AI agent. It’s a powerful way to automate a tedious process and put the focus back on what really matters: showcasing your skills and landing your next great role.
